Skill work for Single Mothers

ADYA EMPOWERMENT ASSOCIATION collaborated with MPU Community Service students organized one day skills work workshop to 15 single mothers with the aim to help them to enhance their selves with the skills. The skill based trainings were conducted by the lecturers from IICS.

Objectives of activity

 

– To create awareness on the need of single mothers

 

– To provide various hand-skill with the intention of helping the beneficiaries to improve their standard of living by additional income with the skills they acquired.

 

A one day skill work workshop was held at INTI International College Subang on the 24th February 2019. This workshop was organized by students and supported by IICS lecturers by providing the free trainings to single mothers. The purpose of the workshop was to provide various hand-skill with the intention of helping the beneficiaries to improve their standard of living by achieving financial independence or having additional income with the skills they acquired. The beneficiaries are from PPR Lembah Subang 1 and 2. The beneficiaries attended Bouquet making course, soft skill training, a Baking courses and a session on media literacy starts from 9.00am until 4.00pm. Students utilized the funds they raised to buy the needed equipment and to provide 3 times meals to the participants.

The event started off with an ice breaking session conducted by Ms Punitha and prior to that breakfast was also prepared. The first workshop of the event was a bouquet making course that, conducted by Ms. Sukmatree who is one of the lecturer in INTI International College Subang.

The event then continued with coffee break and in the midst of that, the students held an interview session with the beneficiaries. Post break and interview session, the event resumed with a basic Malay communication class that was conducted by Ms. Sarojini. 

Following the language class was a class conducted by Ms. Nur Ain who taught the beneficiaries how to market the product using the social media platform Facebook. With lunch provided, the event proceeded with a baking course, held at INTI College’s School of Hospitality kitchen. It was conducted by Ms. Kartina and Ms. Haslina where they taught the beneficiaries how to bake several types of pastries like bread and such. The event wrapped up with a finishing of light refreshments and casual mingling session between the beneficiaries and the rest of the team who were involved in the event.
